1. All foreign nationals are required to present laboratory evidence of absence of COVID-19 infection (RT-PCR) issued no more than 72 hours prior to the date of departure from the origin airport before boarding any airline destined for Myanmar.
2. Travellers must submit health declaration card and present laboratory evidence of absence of COVID-19 infection (RT-PCR) to Health officials present at the airport upon arrival to Myanmar.
3. Thermal screening would be carried out in respect of all the passengers by the Health officials present at the airport.
4. The travellers found to be symptomatic during screening shall be immediately isolated and taken to medical facility as per health protocol.
5. Quarantine requirements for travellers are as follows:
(a) All incoming Myanmar nationals will be subjected to 10-day facility quarantine or hotel quarantine on arrival
(b) All foreign nationals will be subjected to 10-day hotel quarantine on arrival.
(c) All diplomats accredited to Myanmar and United Nations officials who live in standalone houses will be subjected to home quarantine for 10 days and for those who live in Serviced Apartments or Condominiums will be subjected to hotel quarantine designated by the Ministry of Health and Sports for 10 days on their arrival in Myanmar. (As per Ministry of Foreign Affairs classification on diplomatic and UN status)
Testing Requirements for Travellers
6. All travellers will be tested for COVID-19 by RT-PCR on Day 3 and Day 7 during their quarantine period and will be required to pay for testing. Myanmar Nationals may be exempted from payment of testing fees.
7. Travellers who tested positive for COVID-19 shall be immediately isolated and taken to a medical facility as per health protocol. Foreign nationals shall bear the medical cost and other costs related to isolation and treatment in designated health facilities.
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for Travellers
8. Ministry of Health and Sports follows WHO recommendations on COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for “Travellers Interim position paper: Considerations regarding proof of COVID19 vaccination for international travellers (5 Feb 2021).” It is WHO’s position that national authorities and conveyance operators should not introduce requirements of proof of COVID-19 vaccination for international travel as a condition for departure or entry, critical unknowns regarding the efficacy of vaccination in reducing transmission. limited availability of vaccines – preferential vaccination of travellers could result in inadequate supplies of vaccines for priority populations considered at high risk of severe COVID-19 disease. WHO also recommends that people who are vaccinated should not be exempted from complying with other travel risk-reduction measures. Therefore, MOHS will implement quarantine requirements for all travellers in the same manners irrespective of COVID-19 vaccination status. However, it will be updated based on WHO recommendations.
9. Ministry of Health and Sports have implemented travel ban to residents of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, the Republic of India and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and travelers who had visited these countries during the last 14 days, from visiting Myanmar.
However, the travellers can make special request for entry to Myanmar through Myanmar Embassy in respective country and Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19. If the Central COVD Committee allows for entry to Myanmar, he/she will be subjected to 14-day facility quarantine/ hotel quarantine/ home quarantine on arrival and will be tested for COVID-19 by RT-PCR on Day 1, Day 3 and Day 11 during quarantine period.
